Description:Quality Engineer (QE) position supporting the Advanced Inspection Technology Group (AITG) and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)/Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Group located at RMS Sikorsky in Stratford, CT. This position will report to the AITG Quality Associate Manager. The QE will manage the implementation and execution of software and equipment that will inspect machined, 3D printed and other manufactured components. Responsible for all aspects of Quality during the part inspection, production and support stages. Partner with Program Management, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, suppliers and the Customer.

In this role, the QE will at a minimum:
a. Interface and diagnose all programming and software issues with the collective bargaining agreement employees and communicate IT issues to proper POCs
b. Test new revisions of software releases prior to distribution to the PCMM and CMM team members
c. Work with IT to install and troubleshoot new software releases after trialing the software
d. Ability to create or upgrade new CMM programs written in PC-DMIS, CAMIO, Calypso and GEAR PRO
e. Review and approve new CMM programs written in PC-DMIS, CAMIO, Calypso and GEAR PRO
f. Diagnose, decipher, triage and track to closure all engineering issues discovered by any CMM / PCMM employee. This could entail blueprint changes, model-based definition updates and operation sheet revisions.
g. Responsible for managing all software licenses, SMAs and repositories with PC-DMIS, CAMIO, Calypso and GEAR PRO software vendors
h. Maintain an updated inventory list including all CMM, PCMM, optical comparator, bench equipment and probing accessories
i. Track SA1230s, SA1358s (EWR parts), SA1212s and associated DRs to closure with engineering
j. Create workflow and usage charts and graphs of CMM/PCMM equipment
k. Create FAI packages for PCMM and CMM employees to utilize when inspecting parts
l. Create and approve all ICLs for production parts
m. Create Quality Inspection models of parts coming through inspection with limited GD&T models
n. Handle all CMM, PCMM, and other equipment calibration, included working with outside vendors to schedule and escort their visits to the Sikorsky plant
b. NDT
a. Ensure advanced/automated NDT systems have backup inventory of wear items and critical components.
b. Troubleshoot issues and coordinate with facilities/outside services/OEM as necessary on repairs to equipment to reduce/eliminate equipment downtime
c. Coordinate maintenance on the equipment to ensure it is always in a working condition
d. Handle calibration and tracking of calibrated items to avoid equipment availability gaps
e. Assist in acquisition process for NDT capital
Basic Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years professional work experience in aerospace engineering (or similar) environment
  • Bachelor's Degree Mechanical/Aerospace (or related) Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Programming expertise in part inspection software
  • Strong GD&T knowledge and understanding
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with regular reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and work through complex challenges
  • Demonstrated ability in being able to perform tasks with minimal oversight
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience in establishing Performance Metrics for identifying process improvements
  • Knowledge and experience with inspection processes and methods
  • Agile mindset: desire to continuously learn/improve processes to support organization
  • Experience in using SAP, Solumina, MatrixOne and CATIA
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment
  • Experience working in a quality discipline
  • Experience performing tests in accordance with ASTM standardsDesired Skills:
    • Computer Science/Software Eng. coursework
    • Master's degree in Engineering
    • Programming Expertise: PC-DMIS, CAMIO, CALYPSO, GEAR PRO
    • Understand lean six sigma processes and methods; certification is preferredBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
