Rohrer Endowed Chair and Director Stratford, New Jersey Full Time BE or BC Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine William G. Rohrer Endowed Chair in Geriatrics and Director of the New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging Stratford, NJ This is a unique and exciting opportunity for the right individual to take an established "center of excellence" to the next level. The Department of Geriatrics and Gerontology at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM) is seeking an outstanding geriatrician to serve as the William G. Rohrer Endowed Chair and Director of the New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging (NJISA). Consistent with its 3-part mission of clinical service, education and research, we are committed improving the quality of life and quality of care for older adults through:

  • Clinical geriatric primary care programs across settings, including acute care, ambulatory, subacute, assisted living, continuing care retirement communities, and house calls
  • Specialized Memory Assessment Program involving a interprofessional team of geriatric psychiatrist, neuropsychologist, and clinical social worker
  • Behavioral Health and supportive services for patients, families, caregivers, and in select long term care facilities
  • Level I recognition by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) as an "Age-Friendly Health System"
  • Mandatory 1 month clinical rotation in geriatrics for 3 rd year medical students since 1983 and 2 week interprofessional geriatrics course for 2 nd year medical students
  • Over 3 decades of federal and foundation grant funding to support training and education in geriatrics (including a D.W. Reynolds Foundation grant, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and DHHS-HRSA grants)
  • DHHS-HRSA funding as one of 48 Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Programs (GWEPS)
  • Maintaining a fellowship program in geriatric medicine and psychiatry since 1989
  • S. News and World Report recognition in the top 20 graduate medical education programs in geriatrics
  • Multiple academic and community-based partnerships working to build a health care workforce skilled in caring for older individuals
  • A strong foundation in basic science and biopsychosocial research in aging
  • Securing extramural funding from NIH/NIA, foundations, private philanthropy, endowments and currently ranked #1 in research funding of all osteopathic medical schools
  • Advancing research on biomarkers and early detection of Alzheimer's disease, behavioral research in aging, participation in clinical drug trials, and application of technology to improve cognitive assessment
  • 26 national and international patents on neurodegenerative diseases Qualified candidates must hold a D.O. or M.D. degree, with AOA or ABMS Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Psychiatry with a Certificate of Added Qualification/Board Certification in Geriatrics. Strong candidates must have 5 years of academic and professional experience in leadership and management roles and qualify for the rank of Professor (preferred) or Associate Professor. Responsibilities include support of the institutional vision and mission, providing leadership toward excellence in the conduct of teaching, research, patient care delivery, administrative services, and community activities. The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to lead by example, motivate and communicate effectively with faculty and staff, champion new initiatives, encourage expansion of extramural funding, and foster relationships with clinical and academic partners to advance the Department, the Institute and the school through opportunities for contractual relationships. Competitive applicants should have experience with state, federal or foundation grants, preferably as a Project Director or Principal Investigator. The Chair and Director reports directly to the Dean of RowanSOM, and will work closely with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Senior Associate Dean for Research, and other members of the Dean's Cabinet to fulfill this role. Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM) is seeking a Chair for the Department of Geriatrics and Gerontology and Director of the New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging (NJISA). In support of the mission, vision, and values of RowanSOM, the candidate will provide leadership, direction, and development to all teaching, clinical, research, community, and support activities within the Department of Geriatrics and Gerontology. Reporting directly to the Dean of RowanSOM, the Chair will work closely with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Senior Associate Dean for Research, and other members of the Dean's Cabinet to fulfill this role.
