Job Description:
Summary: Under the direction of the Coordinator of Therapy
Services or designate and in accord with agency and profession
specific guidelines, this position is responsible for the
evaluation and assessment of program participants/students
utilizing appropriate assessment tools and techniques. The
incumbent will prepare initial evaluation and progress reports as
required as well as design and implement goals, treatment plans and
clinical interventions based on the evaluation and assessment and
in accord with individual needs. The Occupational Therapist will
oversee and approve all profession specific tasks as conducted by
the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. Qualifications: Must
meet and maintain all academic, experiential and licensure
requirements of the agency and professional, state or local
governing agencies. Strong written and verbal communications skills
and demonstrated competency in all areas indicated below. Major
Position Responsibilities Within profession and agency guidelines,
provide initial evaluation and assessment including the development
of appropriate interventions and treatment plans for all program
participants. Prepare and submit as required all documentation
related to the evaluation and assessment of program participants
and recommended interventions. Provide oversight and professional
approvals of all documentation and therapeutic interventions as
completed by the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants and
interns. Participate in all IEP, Interdisciplinary Team and other
assigned or required meetings related to the development of plans,
goals and or progress of program participants. Serve as a member of
the program interdisciplinary team and participate in the
development of individualized plans for each program participant.
Facilitate training for staff, parents and guardians in the
implementation of agreed upon techniques to enhance participant’s
skills and abilities. Provide direct service to program
participants as identified by the assessment and Individualized
Education Plan. Coordinate Occupational Therapy services with all
other program services. Prepare and document progress reports and
updates and other required documentation on the program
participants’ progress and provide feedback to parents, guardians
and staff as required. Must fully cooperate in any investigations
internal or external including full cooperation with any duly
authorized external agency regarding the care and service given to
individuals’ served by this Agency. Make recommendations for
adaptive devices where needed and ensure their appropriate use.
Assure the cleanliness and safety of all program spaces and all
equipment used. Participate in Back to School Night and provide an
overview of therapy activities for parents Collaborate with
classroom and behavior support staff to develop and implement
Individualized Behavior Support Plans as indicated. The agency may
assign employees to any duties and to any work site it deems
necessary in its sole discretion. The incumbent must be able to
maneuver persons in wheelchairs and persons who use other
ambulation devices and at times may be required to physically lift,
transfer and or otherwise support persons with disabilities. Must
be able to apply appropriate physical intervention techniques when
required in accord with agency policy.
